August - Welcome Back

August - Welcome Back Activities

School's Back In Session

In the month of August, the Early Learning Center celebrates the return of our scholars.  P3 students are new to the program.  Students are introduced to routines and procedures at the ELC.  Returning P4 students are reintroduced to the same guidelines.  All students are given opportunities to socialize and become familiar with the learning environment at the ELC!

2023

This month, the Media Center's focus was introducing students to library behavior and book care.  All of which was centered on the book of the month, I Follow the Rules, by Charlotte Taylor.    Students learned how to behave in the library by following library rules and also learned what book care is all about.  Students completed a series of activities that helped them learn all the library rules and procedures, including book care.  The daily lessons allowed students to gain the necessary foundational skills of responsibility in order to enjoy all the library has to offer:  checking out books.

2022

The key activity was a four part rules poster.  Students were tasked with creating a poster showing themselves following two library rules and breaking those same rules. The purpose of this activity was to teach students proper library behavior and book care.

2021

The book of the month was Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney.  It set the tone of  how the school year starts by meeting new teacher, classmates, and becoming acclimated to the ins and outs of school life.  So, we began the new school year's journey learning about the media center's processes and procedures.  Students gained knowledge of how the media center operates through media center orientation instruction. With this instruction, navigate the media center and its resources, how the media center is organized, and students learned how to care for books .  To further their understanding of book care, students were tasked with a book care project.  They made their own books and had to care for them for 30 days until their next media center visit.  See below for before and after pictures of some student exemplars.
