November - Picture Book Month Activities

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

November is Picture Book Month.  This month showcases the importance of picture books.  In celebration of this month, students at the ELC create and share their picture books with fellow classmates.

Please view the current and previous school years' Picture Book Month Activities.

2023

This year's picture book month activity centered on students telling "all about me" snippets.  Students created non-fiction all about me picture books using personal photos of themselves in their daily lives.  The book of the month that provided the focus of the activity was, A Girl Like Me, by Angela Johnson.

2022

November's picture book month activity focused on students creating either a fiction or non-fiction picture book.  Students learned the difference between the two key categories of books during their time in the media center.

2021

Students actively participated in creating their very own picture books.  The focus was, "For what am I thankful"  based on the reading of the book of the month, The Thankful Book, by Todd Parr.

Students cut out pictures from magazines of items that they are thankful for having in their everyday lives. They were able to express their curiosity about the topic of being thankful by identifying things of personal interest that bring value to their lives.
