October - Book Character Day

October - Book Character Day Activities

The Pick Of The Patch!

October is in the midst of Fall / Autumn.  At the ELC, it's all about the Fall breeze & Autumn leaves!  During this month, students read an array of books and pick their favorite book character.  On a selected day of the month, students dress as their chosen favorite book character!

2024

2024

Picture book month was a glow in the dark experience.  Students were read, Scary Scott, by Katie Dale.  They were tasked with choosing one of the book's characters to create book character jug-o-lanterns.

2023

Book character month was celebrated by students creating their very own and very unique spooky veggie characters.  The inspiration for this activity was centered on the book of the month, Alien Tomato, by Kristen Schroeder.

2022

For this year's book character month celebration, students were tasked with creating a mini book report biography of their favorite characters from their favorite books.  Students created their reports, practiced presenting their book reports with classmate partners, and finally presented their book report biographies in front of their classes.

2021

October was book character month.  Students were able to generate products and express interest and curiosity about the subject matter based on the reading of their favorite books.

Monster Mash, by David Catrow, was the book of the month in the Media Center.  With the book, we engaged in a favorite book character potato decorating activity.  Students also dressed up as their chosen characters and presented their finished product and costume to their classmates.
